Ggaba Kitoogo - Program

In 2014, Standing Up for the Children (SUC) launched its foundational program in Ggaba Katoogo, a challenging slum community nestled along the shores of Lake Victoria. This initiative was born from the urgent need to support innocent orphans and children from financially struggling single-parent and disabled families who lacked access to education and basic necessities.

Operating from a rented church building, SUC initially provided vital support to 29 vulnerable children. Our focus was immediate and impactful, addressing critical needs such as essential clothing, vital medication, and nourishing food. Recognizing that the community's greatest challenge was the severe lack of educational facilities, SUC soon took the pivotal step of establishing a dedicated community school. This ensured that the children of Ggaba Katoogo, particularly the orphans and most vulnerable, gained access to the education that was so desperately needed, thereby beginning our journey of restoring hope and opportunity.

Ggangu-Kiziba Program - (ongoing)

As Standing Up for the Children (SUC) experienced significant growth and sought a more sustainable operational base, our journey led us to Ggangu-Kiziba. This strategic relocation was driven by the need for a more spacious environment to accommodate our expanding number of beneficiaries and programs.

In Ggangu-Kiziba, SUC established a comprehensive nursery and primary school, not only providing continuity for our existing beneficiaries but also extending our critical services to the local population. Recognizing that the community here also faced similar challenges in accessing education and basic necessities, the scope of our work expanded naturally. We continued to offer essential support, including education, nourishing food, vital medication, and necessary clothing, ensuring that a broader segment of vulnerable children—orphans, those from financially struggling single-parent households, and financially disabled families—could access the foundational resources for a hopeful future. This move allowed SUC to significantly amplify its impact, fostering an even larger community of learning and support.
